Mamma Chia in the “Companies That Care” Spotlight
Another great week of “Companies That Care” is upon us, and this week’s feature is none other than the fantastic Mamma Chia. In order to properly explain who Mamma Chia is, it’s necessary to start with the story behind the chia seed.
The Chia Seed
Chia seeds are a small, dark grain that dates back to the Mayan and Aztec era, where they were a staple of the diet and valued for their ability to give energy. It is said that “one tablespoon of the seeds was considered capable of sustaining a warrior for 24 hours.” Throughout history, chia seeds have been widely used for fueling long distance runners in a variety of Native American tribes. Don’t let the chia’s small size fool you; these little morsels are packed with omega-3, fiber, protein, antioxidants, and minerals!
Mamma Chia, Seed Your Soul
Mamma Chia takes all of that chia seed magic and mixes it with organic fruit juices and a touch of organic agave nectar to make a drink that is flavorful and nutritionally powerful. Their “Vitality Beverages” come in a variety of nine delicious combinations; Blackberry Hibiscus, Pomegranate Mint, Coconut Mango, and Grapefruit Ginger, just to name a few.
We love their chia drinks and chia squeeze but we especially admire their mission to be a conscious and sustainable company. With humble beginnings on a small organic farm in the rural San Diego area, Mamma Chia continues to give back to the local community by donating 1% of gross sales to support community groups, local farmers, and organizations that build local healthy food systems. Mamma Chia is also a Certified B Corporation, a member of 1% For the Planet and founding member of the Slow Money Alliance; for more information check out their “mission” page on their website: Mamma Chia mission.
Check out Mamma Chia’s website and be sure to try one of their chia drinks which can be found at many grocery stores including Whole Foods and Jimbos. You can also visit their Facebook fan page, leave them a nice comment and if nothing else, show your support by liking their Facebook page!
