Two Simple Steps To Set Up Google Authorship
Keeping up with the fast paced guidelines of SEO can be difficult. The trends, algorithms, and industry standards of the top search engines are constantly changing. Just recently, Google added another tool to the mix – one that can work well to boost your exposure and in essence, your reputation.
Google Authorship is a simple, yet highly effective tool that instantly links the unique content you create on your website or other sites directly to your Google+ profile. Once the connection has been established, Google displays your Google+ picture next to your article or blog summaries.
Setting up Google Authorship literally puts a face to a name. Statistics have shown that images in the search engine results page (SERP) drive more searchers to click the associated links, which could in turn drive more traffic to an article or website. Another plus is that Google views those pages with authorship as credible sources and distinguishes them from those that do not have an author association. As an example, most people post to their blog as an “admin”.
Below are the two simple steps to set up your Google Authorship:
Step One: Create or access your personal Google+ profile. Once your profile has been created, edit the “About” tab, and under “Contributor to”, add the URLs and websites where you are a contributing author.
Step Two: In your byline or author bio for your articles, you must add a link to your Google+ profile and add the markup “rel=author” to the link, i.e. “<a rel= “author” href= “https://www.plus.google.com/PROFILEID rel=author”>. If you do not have access to the HTML code, be sure to give the owner of the site the proper URL structure.
For those with a WordPress site, under your profile, fill out your Google+ information. Select your profile as author on the pages and posts that you have created.
